A Bit About Us
Heritage Trust is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation formed in July 2000. We are dedicated to enhancing natural resources and the distinctive character of the surrounding communities. Our purpose is to encourage the appreciation of, and learning about, our environmental, historical and cultural heritage and to enhance a sense of community identity.
The Trust stewards the North Shore Heritage Park, in partnership with the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County. The roles and responsibilities of the partnership are vastly different, yet our goals are all to make Heritage Park a featured asset in the community.
Heritage Trust - Our non-profit owns and operates the Heritage Community Center and the design, development, and maintenance of the playground, The Shack concession, bathrooms, Court of America, various landscape plantings, park bench and tree planting programs and other park enhancements. The Heritage Trust runs all the events and programs at Heritage Park.
Town of Brookhaven – the Town of Brookhaven, with Heritage Trust design input, built out the park infrastructure and continues to maintain the ballfields, parking, lawn and general maintenance.
Suffolk County – As the land owner of the majority of the property (Heritage Trust owns .7 acre under the community center) the county role was to bring in partners to develop the land for passive and active recreation. The county meets their goals with written agreements with the Town of Brookhaven and Heritage Trust
The Heritage Trust is solely funded by donations, grants and fund raising events -- we are not funded by tax dollars. The Trust is run by a volunteer Board of Directors, a small staff and volunteers. Our community park has made great strides growing from a sod farm to a beautiful park, filled with activities for all ages. Since its inception, new aspects have continually been added through the years. We are grateful of the support the Town of Brookhaven has provided to develop the infrastructure of the park and the foresight to partner with the non-profit Heritage Trust, to bring the vision of the community to life. Our presence makes Heritage Park a unique experience not found in other parks. There has not been a year that we have sat idle.
From landscaping to playgrounds, the Park’s features are currently enjoyed due to donations and efforts of volunteers. Together we can continue to make Heritage Park a valued community asset. Programs and events we sponsor throughout the year include children's programs, Movies in the Moonlight, adult programs, Halloween Event, Christmas Tree and Hannukah Menorah Lightings, Breakfast with Santa, SummerFest, Fall into Fun Carnival, Avenue of America flag raisings and more. Your support with a tax-deductible donation is something you can do today to help support these offerings. Or volunteer and join a committee!

In her career, Lori has an extensive background in government policy and administration. She is a community activist and spends much of her off time volunteering in her community. She is a founding director and current officer of the Heritage Trust. A resident since 1992 Lori began her volunteer efforts as the President of the Mount Sinai Civic association serving from 1995-2003. During her term she led the community effort to legally challenge the Town's decision to build over 1000 homes on the Davis Peach Farm.
